BBQ and Bats–What’s not to Like???

We had 25 paddlers for our annual pot luck dinner and paddle over to the bat cave to watch the bats emerge at sunset on Aug. 19th.  It was a perfectly calm and clear evening, and we managed to get the Gazebo again with a great view of the beach and lake. Thanks to Ben and his family for getting there early to get it.

The Milfoil was the least we’ve seen in a long time as TVA sprayed the area in July for the first time in about eight years. This was controversial as the fishermen like the Milfoil for fish habitat, but it was getting to the point where they couldn’t launch their boats.

We noticed that the Rest Area on I-24 southbound right on Nickajack Lake is now open again after being closed for many years due to tornado damage. There are attendants on duty and very nice bathrooms.  They also have hundreds of brochures about all the wonderful things to do in Tennessee, including hiking trials and books about Chattanooga and surround areas.

Thanks to everyone who brought food, and especially to Ruthie for making the pork and chicken BBQ.

Looking forward to the Eclipse trip on Monday from our boats.

Take care,
