Jun 12 2022
Whitewater Training Trip #2-Hiwassee (Apalachia Powerhouse to Bridge at Reliance)
hide

This event is part of the summer training series after Paddle School. The training series is designed for beginner paddlers to practice and develop their skills to eventually run the Ocoee by the end of the season. They differ from Paddle School in that though no formal instruction takes place, the trips will have a trip leader and sufficient support boaters to assist in skills development. We will have fun, but this is not designed to be just a social gathering. We will work the river, not just cruise down it. Feel free to ask any questions.

We will meet at the parking lot by the takeout at Hiwassee Outfitters at 11:00am. Link to location https://goo.gl/maps/3NLFZMSbN163877R6. Please be on time because we will have a safety briefing. From there we will set up shuttle. Keep in mind that parking is $3/vehicle at the put in. Please contact Katey Neuffer at ikneuffer@gmail.com to let her know you are coming by Wednesday before the trip.

Registration opens on Sunday, 6/5/22.

Description

This is a summer get together of club members to have some fun, eat some food, and meet some other members of TVCC you may not already know. We will have catered hamburgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings served at 6PM, listen to some music (more on who is coming soon), and play volleyball or disc gulf for the young (or any age) at heart. We will also get to know our club a little better. Three of our past officers will tell a couple of short and nice stories about when they were serving your club that they have fond memories of. Of course we will give you a look ahead to some more things the club has planned in the near future. Finally, we will have drinks and beer by the can available by our caterer Apricot Cafe for purchase if that is your thing. A flatwater trip on Parksville Lake and the ever favorite Lesser Wesser Messer Nantahala trip are happening on this same day. So come on these trips and then then cap off the day here at our Summer Party.

Parking at USA Raft is $5/car. Because of the long shuttle, we will use the local shuttle service. How this works is a local person will take you, your boat, and gear to the put in so that way your car will be at the takeout at the end of the day. Cost is $25/shuttle driver, so please bring cash to split the costs. Because of the logistics for shuttle, the last day to register for this trip will be August 16. This will be enforced! This will allow us to get the appropriate number of shuttle drivers. Whitewater Training Trip #10-Lesser Wesser Messer (Nantahala Falls)

You must be a TVCC member in order to attend, or you may register as a one time guest. Direct all questions to the trip leader or the training officer (training@tvccpaddler.com).

Want to work on catching eddies? Or are you still intimidated by the Nantahala Falls? Then come out to the Lesser Wesser Messer. For this event, we will work solely on Lesser Wesser (more commonly referred to as Nantahala Falls). We will practice working this rapid to build confidence. This trip will focus on catching as many eddies as possible, and running different lines. You must have attended at least 2 of the 4 previous Nantahala trips in order to attend this one. We will meet at the NOC at 11:00am. Link to location Nantahala Outdoor Center. Please be on time because we will have a safety briefing. Please contact Katey Neuffer at ikneuffer@gmail.com to let her know you are coming by Thursday before the trip.

ACE Kayaking, the premier kayaking school in the Southeast, is offering several group clinics exclusively for TVCC members this season. The next clinic will be an Ocoee Beatdown on August 13. This class is for intermediate/advanced paddlers with experience paddling the middle section of the Ocoee River comfortably. This is not for someone getting on the Ocoee for the first time or has only done it a few times. You will be challenged on this section as you work on more advanced lines and play in holes. This class will be taught by Kirk Eddlemon on the middle Ocoee. You must be a TVCC member in order to attend. Meet at the private boater takeout at 10:00am. Link to location Big Creek Access - Ocoee Private Boater Takeout. Contact the training officer, Carl Schoonover, at training@tvccpaddler.com if you have any questions. You must register online. Contacting a board member or ACE Kayaking will not count as registering for the event.

Chattooga IV
hide

RECENT WEATHER HAVE RISEN THE WATER LEVELS TO DANGEROUSLY HIGH. A DECISION WILL BE MADE BY FRIDAY, AUGUST 11 IN THE AFTERNOON IF THIS TRIP WILL STILL OCCUR WITH A POSSIBLE ALTERNATE LOCATION!

Please contact Carl Schoonover by phone or email after registering online for this trip.

When: August 13, 10am

Where: Chattooga Section IV, Class IV

Contact: Carl Schoonover, 770-355-9194, training@tvccpaddler.com

Who Can Attend: TVCC members in good standing. If you are not a member yet, but are considering it, you may participate as a one time guest (you still must register online). Go to https://tvccpaddler.com/join-tvcc/ to create or renew your membership.

Event in Detail: The sun is hot, and the days are long. Come on out and enjoy a day on section IV of the wild and scenic Chattooga River. This trip is not for the inexperienced paddler. You must have solid skills in order to participate. The consequences on this section are serious. You need to be able to perform some of the more difficult moves on the Middle Ocoee, and be comfortable on the Upper Ocoee. A maximum of 4 first timers will be allowed. When you register, the trip lead will make sure that you are ready for this trip. We will meet at the lake at 10am. We will then set shuttle, drive to Bull Sluice, and paddle section IV. These plans are tentative and are subject to change.

River Information: https://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/view/river-detail/476/main

Meeting Location: Chattooga Section IV Takeout

Special Considerations: You will be vetted and must be approved by the trip leader before participating.

THE LOCATION FOR THIS TRIP HAS CHANGED! WE WILL RELOCATE TO THE PIGEON RIVER. BECAUSE OF HIGHER THAN OPTIMAL WATER LEVELS, IT WON'T BE SAFE TO CONDUCT A TRAINING TRIP ON THE NOLICHUCKY TO PREPARE FOR THE OCOEE. WE WILL MEET AT THE PIGEON TAKEOUT AT 11AM. CLICK HERE FOR THE LINK LOCATION.

How this works is a local person will take you, your boat, and gear in your car to the put in and drive your car back so that way your car will be at the takeout at the end of the day. Cost is $25/shuttle driver, so please bring cash to split the costs. Because of the logistics for shuttle, the last day to register for this trip will be August 15. This will be enforced! This will allow us to get the appropriate number of shuttle drivers. Please contact Carl Schoonover at training@tvccpaddler.com to let him know you are coming by Tuesday before the trip. This trip is water level dependent and the location may change.
