Reelfoot Lake State Park is located in the northwest corner of Tennessee and is noted for its fishing, boating and wildlife viewing. The 15,000 acre lake was created by a series of violent earthquakes in 1811-1812 that caused the Mississippi River to flow backwards for a short period of time, creating Reelfoot Lake.
The park’s ecosystem is unlike any other place in Tennessee. Reelfoot lake is a flooded forest. While Majestic Cypress trees rise above the water, below the surface are many submerged Cypress stumps. A variety of aquatic plants and flowers occupy the shoreline and saturate the shallow water. The lake harbors almost every kind of shore and wading bird as well as golden and American bald eagles.

This event is part of the summer training series after Paddle School. The training series is designed for beginner paddlers to practice and develop their skills to eventually run the Ocoee by the end of the season. They differ from Paddle School in that though no formal instruction takes place, the trips will have a trip leader and sufficient support boaters to assist in skills development. We will have fun, but this is not designed to be just a social gathering. We will work the river, not just cruise down it. You must be a TVCC member in order to attend. Feel free to ask any questions.
This is it everyone! The moment you have been preparing for this whole summer! It's time to experience the Ocoee in all its glory. We will meet at the private boater takeout at 10:00am. I will contact you all by Thursday, September 8 before the trip in order to vet everyone and make sure that you are ready for this trip. Please contact Carl Schoonover at carl.h.schoonover@gmail.com if you have any questions.
Registration opens on Wednesday, 8/31/22 and closes Wednesday, 9/7/22.

We will meet at the parking lot at USA Raft at 11:00am. Link to location https://g.page/usar-adventure-resort?share. Please be on time because we will have a safety briefing. Parking at USA Raft is $5/car. Because of the long shuttle, we will use the local shuttle service. How this works is a local person will take you, your boat, and gear to the put in so that way your car will be at the takeout at the end of the day. Cost is $25/shuttle driver, so please bring cash to split the costs. Because of the logistics for shuttle, the last day to register for this trip will be August 16. This will be enforced! This will allow us to get the appropriate number of shuttle drivers. Please contact Steven Adams at swrcourses@gmail.com to let him know you are coming by Wednesday before the trip.
