CAPACITY: 10 PARTICIPANTS

INFO: Are you relatively new to paddling a long boat? Do you want to practice attainments? Then come on out to the Metro Hooch to work on paddling upstream. The Metro Hooch is a class I-II section of the Chattahoochee River that goes through approximately 2.75 miles of Atlanta. This will be a good clinic to work on your power, strength, endurance, river reading, river running, and technique. It's a good step up to working on attainments on the Hiwassee. You must have a long boat and a reliable combat roll. We will meet at the Paces Mill Boat Ramp. Click on the link for location. Meet-up time is at 1:00pm. There is a $5/vehicle fee because it's in a national park.

Afterward, we will go to Truist Park to watch the Atlanta Braves take on the Arizona Diamondbacks. First pitch is at 7:20pm. Logistics for parking are still being worked on. YOU MUST PARTICIPATE IN THE CLINIC IN ORDER TO GET YOUR TICKET! TICKETS PROVIDED BY THE CLUB ARE FOR PARTICIPANTS ONLY! If you wish to bring a plus one, they must purchase their own ticket.

Other Info: ACE Kayaking, the premier kayaking school in the Southeast, is offering several group clinics exclusively for TVCC members this season. The first clinic is an introduction to creeking. This is a class designed for beginners. This is a great opportunity to learn proper technique and good habits before Paddle School. The class will be taught on the Cartecay River by Joe Gudger. You must be a TVCC member in order to attend. Meet at the parking lot at Cartecay River Experience-River Left (aka Woody's) at 3:00pm. Other Info: Bennett Smith is kindly offering his time to teach a playboat clinic exclusively for TVCC members this season. Bennett is an accomplished playboater who has participated in the freestyle world championships. This class is for intermediate/advanced paddlers with a playboat. You will learn about the fundamentals and tricks used in park and play. This class will be on the middle Ocoee. You must be a TVCC member in order to attend. Other Info: Want to know how to help rescue a friend, but you don't know how? Or do you know how to self-rescue? Then join our Rescue Rodeo! This class is designed to give the beginner kayaker basic river rescue skills to make whitewater trips safer and more fun.  You will learn whitewater safety philosophy, equipment, how to re-enter a swamped boat, how to tow swimmers using your boat, equipment recovery techniques, how to swim in whitewater, and much more. This is a river rescue skills course the club has designed for new boaters. This is not a regular whitewater training trip.  We will be running the Hiwassee River. You need to have the required skills and equipment. This is an all day course. The class will run from 8:00am-7:00pm EST. Check in will be from 8:00am-8:30am EST. The morning portion will be land based instruction at Hiwassee Outfitters starting at 8:30am. Link to location Hiwassee Outfitters.You will be on the water all afternoon.  After the class is over, we will have dinner. Catering will be provided for everyone, so there will be no need to provide your own dinner. Other Info: An ACA L4 Swiftwater Rescue course taught on the Ocoee River by TVCC's Team Safety, the club's current and qualified SWR instructor team. Students must be comfortable paddling Class III whitewater. This course is on the Ocoee river, but we will not be paddling any of the named rapids. Saturday will be a half day water training in the morning, half day land based training at camp in the afternoon. We will meet at the Ocoee private boater take out on Saturday at 8:00am. Required equipment to participate in the course.

All gear can be purchased at an outfitter store (Rock Creek, Nantahala Outdoor Center, Endless River Adventure). The club also has loaner gear that you can borrow.

  • Normal paddling gear (boat, paddle, helmet, PFD, etc.)
  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Rescue PFD (some may be available as loaners)
  • Rescue tether
  • Three locking carabiners (screw or twist gate)
  • A throw rope (50 foot length and 1/4 inch minimum)
  • One 20 foot section of 1 inch tubular nylon webbing
  • Two 6 foot sections of prussic cord (5mm preferred, 6mm can work)
  • Two rescue pulleys (1" prussik minding--smc crx, omega ice, fusion rescue all work)

Ace Clinic: Advanced Creeking

This event requires a $50 deposit that will be refunded to you after participation. If you register and later cannot attend, please contact the Treasurer, BG Smith, at Treasurer@tvccpaddler.com before the end of registration so your refund can be processed. If you do not cancel your registration and do not attend, you will forfeit your refund. Other Info: ACE Kayaking, the premier kayaking school in the Southeast, is offering several group clinics exclusively for TVCC members this season. The next clinic is an advanced creeking. This is a class designed for intermediate/advanced paddlers. The class will be taught on the Ocoee River by Joe Gudger. You must be a TVCC member in order to attend. Meet at the private boater takeout at 10:00am. Contacting a board member or ACE Kayaking will not count as registering for the event. Registration is first come, first serve.
