September Paddler Tattler

By Dian Lawhon, Newsletter Editor and Communications Chair.

Registration for the 50th Anniversary celebration ends on Wednesday, August 30th!  You need to sign up NOW to take advantage of the big event scheduled for September 9th and 10th.  There will be food and camaraderie, paddling and raffles, and another chance to meet legacy members and enjoy a video featuring 50 years of paddling.  You can also still buy cool 50th anniversary merchandise.  Volunteers are also needed to help with set-up, registration, the auction, shuttle for the kayak race, help with the dinner, and clean-up. The 50th celebration is also the Fall Member Meeting where members will be asked to vote on the new Board Of Officers and changes to the Bylaws.  In addition to the 50th, TVCC has been asked to provide support boaters for the Women’s and Men’s Ironman races and the Girl Scout Raft Race, all on the same weekend. Clearly, September is gearing up to be a very busy month for the club.  This newsletter also includes highlights of a paddle to the Bat cave on Nickajack Lake as well as the thrill of watching the total eclipse from the Tennessee River.

Please check out the September newsletter for more information about the 50th celebration, the volunteer opportunities, and future events as well as highlights from August activities.  As always, whether you paddle flatwater or whitewater, club members have lots of opportunities to enjoy the lakes, creeks, and rivers in the area.

The Paddler Tattler is a monthly newsletter highlighting recent activities and upcoming events of the Tennessee Valley Canoe Club. Established in 1967, the Tennessee Valley Canoe Club turns 50 years old in 2017.  The Club brings together those interested in canoeing, kayaking, and related activities; to increase the knowledge, safety and appreciation of paddle sports; and to support conservation and preservation of recreational waterways.
