The TVCC SWR Clinic dates are May 1-2. The class is not limited to TVCC members. The class will be taught rain or shine. The onlyreason the class is likely to be canceled is excessive water levels. If water levels are excessive we will try to reschedule the clinic. We need between 8 and 12 students to effectively run drills. Location: Either Nemo (Emory River) or Lilly Rapid (Clear Creek) near Wartburg, TN. The Basic Outline for the course is located at http://tinyurl.com/m3nu56 The class will start at 8 AM Eastern and run until 5-6 PM both days. Morning classes will be land based. Afternoon sessions are in the water drills and scenarios (dress warmly). There are a couple of camping options in the Wartburg area, primitive camping is available across the river at Nemo Bridge (Rock Creek campground, no water, pit toilets), Frozen Head State Park offers improved camping (showers and flushers). Basic SWR equipment required for the clinic is: * Helmet designed for whitewater paddling; biking, climbing and construction helmets are not acceptable. * USCG approved PFD (Personal Flotation Device) Type III or V designed for whitewater paddling. * Closed toe river shoes, sneakers are OK. Sandals and neoprene socks are not acceptable, the risk of foot/toe injury is too high. * Throw rope, at least 50 ft and preferably 70 ft or longer. The Sterling, Dyeema and Spectra rope materials are better choices than Polypropylene ropes. Ropes with a diameter of 5/16 to 3/8 inch are better choices than ¼" ropes. * Two locking carabiners. Standard screw type locking carabiners are preferred over the auto-locking type. * 15-20 feet of 1" tubular webbing * Two 6 ft pieces of 5-6 MM prussic cord. Parachute cord does not qualify for prussic cord. A climbing or whitewater store will have these items and know what you are looking for. Boating gear, We will be doing a session on boat based rescues, this is not a river trip. Boat, Paddle, PFD, Helmet, Spray skirt River and shore clothing appropriate for the weather. Neoprene is a good option to reduce the bruising from contact with rocks during the class. Afternoons will be spent in the water doing drills and scenarios, waterproof and insulation layers as needed. This class involves swimming in whitewater. You will need to bring lunch, water, and snacks each day. The teaching sites are not close to eateries and water is not available at the teaching sites. The cost of the class is $85 Check required two prior April 17 to confirm enrollment. The refund policy is: If you cancel before April 24, I will return your check. If you cancel between April 24 and 30, I will refund $40. No shows day of the clinic, no refund. If we cancel the class your money will be refunded.
